LEARNING MISSION

Mission last reviewed: July 7, 2026

Why this guide matters

Decisions made without data are guesses; the community compiling its own charts — verified and dated — puts facts where guesses were.

How we’ll know it’s working

Honest, countable signs only: questions submitted · instruments gathering answers · pages read and rated useful · and more people who can explain how these decisions actually get made. Counts publish, dated, on Community Findings.

Data & your voice

Surveys, by subject · the results so far · Where’s the data? — every mission runs on what the community measures.

Every mission on this platform keeps asking the same thing: where are the verified numbers? This guide's job is to answer — building the Nation's shared evidence base, source by source, so decisions everywhere get smarter.

FINDING

How this guide judges a fact

The five lenses weigh ideas. This guide does not weigh ideas — it gathers evidence, so that everyone else’s ideas can be weighed against something. Its standard is different and simpler: a number is not published without the rule that produced it, and a claim is not published without the document that establishes it. Every row here carries a date and a source, or it carries the words “not yet found.” How we verify → · The five lenses, for the guides that use them →

Baseline sources we're gathering

Official resources

Each verified baseline lands in the relevant mission’s Current Data box with source, date, and confidence.

How to contribute

Community participation

Know a reliable report, dataset, or number? Suggest a resource or metric. Found something that contradicts the site? Even better — send the correction.

Champions wanted

Community participation

This guide needs a data statistician and a survey professional — see Help Wanted.

Outputs

Where it all goes

Verified baselines → mission Current Data boxes → the Community Dashboard → success metrics the whole Nation can watch. “We fixed it” should mean the numbers moved.

Task Guides

The to-do list — what needs vetting

The community’s standing to-do list: everything written or wanted but not yet at ✓ (the key). Pick one, do one, send it in — that’s a contribution complete:

Send findings through Add to a chart or Fill in a row — volunteers verify, then the mark changes. That’s the whole system: the mark changes when the evidence does.

Make it accessible — what do you need closer to home?

Distance is the Nation’s quietest barrier. This instrument counts it: what people travel for, how far, and what would fix it — by agency, so the gaps show up on the map where a budget or a candidate can answer them.

Anonymous · published only as combined counts on Community Findings, dated

How this works: we log types of issues and patterns — never names of people or offices. Nothing posts directly: volunteers review and de-identify everything, and only combined counts publish, dated.

The Evidence Board — what we are looking for, and what we are building

Two kinds of gap, one board. Rows are facts the public should be able to see — found, or honestly marked not yet found. Charts are compilations the community is assembling, a row at a time. Filling either one is the same act: somebody checks something, dates it, and says where they looked.

This is a board of evidence, not a list of chores. Everything this project still has to verify — across the whole site, sorted by who owns it — is generated on The Work and rebuilt on every build. If a task appears in both places, The Work is the one that stays current. Not finding something is a finding. Say where you looked, and it becomes a row.

Rows — where’s the data?

Sister to Where’s the law? — this is the running list of data the public should be able to see, who should publish it, and whether anyone can find it. Finding it fills a row; not finding it is a finding too. This is the mission: the Nation assembling its own dashboard.

Charts — help fill in what the Nation needs to know

The most useful things on this site are charts — compiled facts, checked and dated. Every one has gaps only the community can fill. Pick a chart, add what you know or can verify.

Charts in progress — community-built, growing a row at a time:

The law behind this guide

2 N.N.C. § 225 — access to contracts shall be provided to the public. 12 N.N.C. § 309 — procurement information shall be available to the public, per the Navajo Nation Privacy and Access to Information Act, 2 N.N.C. § 81. 12 N.N.C. § 5 — every program shall make its books available to the Auditor General.

What we found

The FY2026 budget ($603.7 million) is public. So are quarterly Judicial Branch reports. Nobody has assembled what the Nation spends on damage control versus prevention.

How we’ll know it worked

When someone publishes that number, with the budget lines behind it.
